The Irvine Family’s Legacy
Everyone in Orange County has heard of the Irvine Company. That’s because the Irvine Company's holdings consist of 127 million square feet and include more than 570 office buildings, 650,000 apartment homes, 40 retail centers, one coastal resort, three golf courses, and five marinas. This phenomenal legacy all began with one immigrant family from Belfast, Ireland. The Irvine’s original farmstead has been historically preserved, and can be visited to this day at 13042 Old Myford Road, in Irvine. After visiting myself, I left feeling inspired by such an amazing family’s history. The Irvine’s actually lived among their employees who enjoyed housing, wages, and meals all provided for them. It left an impression so different from the removed CEOs, presidents, and executives of some of our contemporary corporations. After touring the grounds for hours, it seemed that to work for the Irvines was to become a family member oneself!
My office is owned by the Irvine Company and comes complete with a gym, private showers, and all the coffee and tea I can drink. Not to mention the state of the art facility itself. They call the building “The Launch,” and for a real estate agent in Orange County, I cannot think of a better place to start my career. My future is as mysterious to me, as life must have been, for the first Irvines who made it to America. My only hope, is that I live with the passion, integrity, and other traits that brought the Irvines so much renown.
